These recordings of Elvis Presley on the radio program The Louisiana Hayride, recorded from 1954 to 1956 at the start of his career, were released in a less complete form on several LPs in the early 1980s, but this 53-minute CD expands on those records, including alternate versions of a couple of the tracks. The material is still burdened by an unnecessary narration by Frank Page, and the packaging is still shoddy. ("Maybellene" is spelled "Maybaleen," for example.) Sound quality is sometimes primitive in the extreme. Nevertheless, these earliest Presley live recordings have historical value, providing a sense of Presley's development in his first years as a professional.
