Bob Dylan prefaces his upcoming album Modern Times (which the back cover announces will be released on August 29, 2006) with this three-song EP, titled after a song slated for that album, which turns out to be a revised version of the old blues song of the same name that is usually attributed to Muddy Waters, fitted out with new lovelorn lyrics. "High Water (For Charley Patton)," from Dylan's last album, Love and Theft, with its country-blues arrangement, similarly references old folk and blues tunes, and "Not Dark Yet," from 1997's Time Out of Mind is one of the best songs on that Grammy-winning effort. The EP is thus a brief, representative sampler of Dylan's late-‘90s and 2000's renaissance.
