Songs of Dr. Seuss & More collects re-recorded versions of the songs that graced the animated specials inspired by books like The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, and Green Eggs and Ham. Dr. Seuss -- aka Theodore Geisel -- co-wrote most of these songs, and they reflect his wonderfully loopy, rhythmic way with words. Most of these re-recordings, which are performed by the session band the Hit Crew, are fairly decent, although "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" doesn't have as much of the menacing playfulness that made the original version so memorable. However, "A Day for Cat in the Hat," "Plinker Plunker," and "The Left Sock Thievers," among others, are nearly as good as the versions on the original recordings. Most Seuss fans will be better served by picking up Buddha's Dr. Seuss Presents series, but this collection could please less discerning people just looking for a compilation of these songs.
