AllMusic Review by

Drew's Famous 30 Greatest Fifties features re-recorded versions of some of the biggest hits of the '50s, as performed by the session band the Hit Crew. Some of the covers, such as "Rock Around the Clock" and "Chantilly" come pretty close to sounding like the real deal, while others, like "La Bamba," completely miss the mark. The Hit Crew's Elvis impersonator is pretty good, making the versions of "Hound Dog" and "Blue Suede Shoes" two of the set's highlights. Likewise, their Fats Domino and Danny & the Juniors stand-ins do fairly convincing versions of "Blueberry Hill" and "At the Hop," respectively. However, none of these renditions will fool -- or satisfy -- anyone who's familiar with the original versions of these songs. There are enough compilations of the originals to make this collection unnecessary.
