AllMusic Review by

So many of the Byrds' albums are acknowledged classics that it's easy to forget what a marvelous singles band they were, and this no-nonsense overview of their Columbia career has all the big ones, including the immortal "Mr. Tambourine Man," the John Coltrane-influenced "Eight Miles High," and one of their finest Bob Dylan covers, "My Back Pages." In all, there are six Dylan songs here, as well as gems like Gene Clark's "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better" and a great David Crosby single, "Lady Friend," which unfortunately never got the radio exposure it deserved. Serious fans will already have everything The Collection has to offer, but it is perfect for casual listeners who just want a greatest-hits-type sampler of this wonderful band's body of work.
