This LP has 11 performances taken from Rudi Blesh's legendary This Is Jazz radio series of 1947. Although all of the music will be reissued on CD in more complete form by Jazzology, fans of the fiery cornetist Wild Bill Davison will find much of interest here. Davison's supporting cast includes trombonists George Brunies and Jimmy Archey, clarinetists Albert Nicholas and Edmond Hall, Joe Sullivan, James P. Johnson or Ralph Sutton on piano, guitarist Danny Barker, Pops Foster or Sid Weiss on bass and Baby Dodds, Johnny Blowers, Morey Feld or Freddy Moore on drums. The Dixieland music (which includes "Panama," "Sensation," "China Boy" and "California, Here I Come") is quite enjoyable.
