The best way to acquire the 1939-1945 recordings of Earl Hines' exciting big band is to somehow get the two double LPs released by French RCA, for they include all of the ensemble's performances plus the alternate takes. The first set is highlighted by "Indiana," "Piano Man," "Riff Medley," two takes of "Boogie Woogie on St. Louis Blues," two versions of "Tantalizing a Cuban," and three typically remarkable Hines solo piano performances. Hard-swinging music from one of the swing era's great orchestras.
