This Black Lion CD reissues a somewhat obscure but highly enjoyable Earl Hines piano solo date from the 1974 Montreux Jazz Festival. Hines proves to still be in prime form whether digging into a West Side Story medley, stretching out on "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" or even playing Burt Bacharach's "Close to You." Even at that late stage of his career, Hines constantly took chances and came up with surprising and consistently fresh ideas. This set is easily recommeded, as are virtually all of his the pianist's unaccompanied solo albums.
