This 2005 collection features songs from 1970s Italian films composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone. Selected by the maestro himself, this 18-track compilation presents whimsical pieces from comedies such as RENE THE CANE (RENE LA CANNE). Despite the generally lively, lighthearted mood, however, there are moments of serene beauty, most notably the gorgeously minimal "A Florinda," which consists almost solely of spare string lines. Those seeking Morricone's kinetic Western scores or startling horror movie music should look elsewhere, since this disc focuses on some of the prolific composer/arranger's most buoyant and melodic work.
