This 14-track compilation by outlaw country legend Merle Haggard is a bit deceptive in that it consists entirely of live material. The very tiny "recorded live" fine print on the back cover might easily be missed by potential buyers, but fortunately it contains some strong material and spirited performances culled from his 1960s peak. Essentially a live greatest-hits collection, Country features Hag classics like "Mama Tried," "Today I Started Loving You Again," and "Okie from Muskogee" sung in his signature drawl with that biting Telecaster sound that is his alone. The fidelity on some of the recordings leaves a bit to be desired, but it's a nice portrait of a great artist on-stage in his prime.
