Modern Composition

A broad category that encompasses the various movements and directions in composition that sprung up during the 1900s such as minimalism, atonal; music that even by the end of the century found more acceptance (and respect) in avant-garde minded circles, than in the classical world. Various esoteric and personalized compositional styles such as works labeled "new music" or "musique actuelle" also fall under this category.
