Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel, Pt. 1

Song Review by

A jubilant romp written by Keni St. Lewis and Freddie Perren that rose to number three R&B and number 15 pop in 1976 to achieve gold status. It has a stomp-down disco beat that mellows before the breaks, then reverts back to its incessant madness. Ralph Antone's lead is ecstatically endearing, and the backing voices are up to the task, throwing down some sweet blends and runs. It's hard to believe the group didn't like this and other hits; it has an infectious charm and never bores.
