The Poplist with Seapony

Poplist

blog image 1Seapony's second album Falling is another installment of wonderfully crafted indie pop that knocked me right out! Here are some of the things I say in my review: "super catchy songs bathed in reverb and lightly sprinkled with fuzz," "a touch more complex sounding than their debut, with an added amount of sophistication that really helps the songs sink in a bit deeper," and "the kind of record you want to curl up with on a long summer night." I stand by those sentiments and might go even go so far as to declare that Falling will be right at the top of my list for best pop records of 2012, indie or otherwise. We got in touch with the band's Danny Rowland to find out what's been on his mind lately and he delivered big time!

You can stream the entire album on Soundcloud.

Before Danny gets started, check out this really nice live video of the group...

Top YouTube Vidz that Sorta Blew My Mind
I don't want you to think I'm some kind of weirdo, but I do like to watch weird stuff on YouTube, and through it I have found the answers to life's greatest mysteries.

Religion Comes from Ancient Astrology and Sun Worship:
According to this know-it-all dude, religion has been a slow evolution which originated from a primitive/mystical admiration of the sun and constellations. Over time, stories were created and the heavenly bodies were given human characteristics, probably to more easily keep track of I think. Stories were created and adapted many times over. Is this how modern religion as we know came to be? Is Jesus the sun? Hard to say.

The Cygnus Mystery
Did you ever wonder how humans made the sudden leap from hunter/gatherer transient types to the founder of complex civilizations? Me either, but the answer is cosmic rays. Pinnacle moments in our evolutionary history seem to coincide with higher doses of cosmic rays blasting out from a sideways black hole.

Extreme Mysteries - Coral Castle
If a mystery is going to be a mystery, it might as well be an EXTREME one. Ed discovered the secrets of the pyramids and built a castle all by himself using levitation probably. He built it for the love of his life, who left him standing at the alter because he was too old (he was 25 and she was 16). Anyway, that's creepy but still kind of romantic guess. I can see this as a Wes Anderson movie.

Graham Hancock's "Quest for the Lost Civilization"
I keep falling asleep for this one because it's so long. It explains why ancient structures, like the pyramids of Egypt, are built in line with certain constellations. Later on, he talks about the underwater pyramids near Japan. Alien talk kept to a bare minimum.
