Summertime is a reissue of the 1957 Charles Mingus album Mingus Three which was put together by the Intercontinental Masters budget line. The sound is good for a budget recording, but the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. Cheap-looking graphics and an absence of information about the original recording and the musicians who play on the album are made worse by a complete lack of liner notes of any kind. The bargain price makes this a fine introduction to Mingus' early music, but the corners cut to keep the price down seem fairly harsh.
