AllMusic Review by

The familiarity of the song titles should not distract you; this is not the Spear of Destiny best-of that you spent so many years awaiting. Rather, it is an abridged version of what would ultimately emerge on the Recall label pretending to be a best-of, a collection of alternate versions and mixes dating from throughout Spear of Destiny's career, and picking up some of the band's finest songs. For that reason alone, then, it's an exhilarating listen. Besides, the average neophyte probably won't be able to distinguish too easily between the outtakes included here and the familiar LP versions; in any form you like, songs like "Rainmaker," "Liberator," and "Mickey" are stone-cold classics. But Kirk Brandon's constant recycling of the same material over a host of different releases is becoming a little tiresome, now. How about he just wraps it all up in one vast box set and leaves it at that?
