AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

This long out of print album is a true obscurity, a jazz treatment of the long-forgotten score of the Broadway show "Oh Captain." The jazz-oriented vocals (by Marilyn Moore and Jackie Paris, plus one by drummer Osie Johnson) are fine, and the musicians are quite notable, including trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison, tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins, trumpeter Art Farmer, Tony Scott on a variety of reeds, and the date's musical director, pianist Dick Hyman. Definitely a historical curiosity, this was billed as the first jazz showtune album with vocals.
