AllMusic Review by

Considering that Clarence Williams was a pretty basic pianist and that Dick Hyman can play anything on the keyboard, it is a bit surprising that his solo interpretions of a dozen Williams tunes are so successful. Hyman generally does not try to play exactly like the composer-pianist but he sometimes emulates Williams' various groups of the 1920's and 30's (most of these songs were originally recorded by combos) and comes up with fresh variations within the vintage style. Among the highlights are "Organ Grinder Blues," "I'm Goin' Back to Bottomland," "What's the Matter Now," "Papa De-Da-Da" and "Cushion Foot Stomp."
