Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra in this live concert recording of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 9 in D major. This post-Romantic work was the composer's last completed symphony, and it followed completion of the unnumbered vocal symphony, Das Lied von der Erde. The Philharmonia delivers the symphony with its customary solid playing, and Salonen gives the reading a high level of intensity. This performance was recorded on March 22, 2009, in the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, London.
