AllMusic Review by

One of the most distinctive voices in '70s soul, Al Green was the consummate loverman whose songs spoke of a joyful, earthy sensuality as well as the heartfelt emotions of true love, and working with producer and arranger Willie Mitchell, Green cut a handful of hits that merged the sweet and sour, down-home feel of Southern soul with the new polish of the Philadelphia sound. Blessed with a voice that could swing into a thrilling falsetto at will, Green was one of the biggest and best artists in R&B until he chose to give up popular music for gospel in 1979. Ten of Al Green's most enduring secular performances are collected on this album, which features such soul classics as "Let's Stay Together," "I'm Still in Love with You," "Tired of Being Alone," "Love and Happiness," and more.
