An early and worthy sampler, The Latin World of Tito Puente plays on "world" as both a chronology of Puente on Tico, up to this point, and a round-the-world geographical motif. There is "Recado" from the bossa nova album, a pachanga, and the intriguingly exotic numbers "Africa Speaks" and "Chino." There are also several hits which would turn up on subsequent compilations: "Ran Kan Kan," "Oye Como Va," "Babarabatiri," and "Caramelos." Although really only half of his world, since there are none of the vital RCA recordings, the Latin World of Tito Puente is one giant planet.
