Angels Don't Fall in Love

Composed by Susanna Hoffs / Vicki Peterson

Song Review by

One of Vicki Peterson's patented hard rock songs from the Different Light album, "Angels Don't Fall in Love" is one of the only songs on the album that features the group's punkish, quirky energy. Like several of Peterson's other songs, there is a confessional tone to the entire affair, and in this way makes it somewhat similar to Janis Ian's early work. The arrangement breaks down into a Latin-effused percussion coda, which, while being unusual for the band, turns the song into a "production piece," and somewhat defuses the overall energy and momentum. Nevertheless, it remains an example of the band's unique vision and ability and nonpareil harmony singers.
