So the last Peep's work kinda went unnoticed by critics and general audience, which is understandable after all the hype fell down and the fact that this is collaboration. So what can be said about this record? If you're the person, who doesn't cringe from bad singing/lyrics and instead laughing histerically, then this is one hilarious project for you.
I don't believe in occultism, but somehow I have a feeling that proud spirit of Florence Foster Jenkins has entered the body of ILoveMakkonen to shine in all it's glory (???), I mean, just look at "Piano Freestyle"! (btw, why is it called freestyle, if you tap like ONE key??? The cover of the album, which portrays Makonnen like a mysterious piano-player makes the listening even more hilarious). My face cracks from grinning every time I hear the beginning of "Hocus Pocus", by the end of the track I lose my focus, because I'm suffocated with laugh. "I Sell Cocaine" is the funniest attempt to be Gangsta Gangsta from our beloved Makonnen - "I look like giraffe all the way in South Africa" (I pictured it in my mind)) But maybe, his talent is not singing, music or lyrics, but rapping? Wrong again, on "Twisted' he sounds so off beat, like he is totally tone-deaf! "Made a million with my mouth"? Hmm, now I understand..
Peep sounds solid, but definetly not giving his best, and such dim tracks as "Rent To Pay'", "Really Loving You", "Cruise" and "That Juice" drag the record into the depths of repetitive boredom, on the other hand, such tracks as sexy queer "Smokin'", "November" and "Nasty Names" give us a hint, that this could be a great pop rap record, after all, previous works with Makonnen - "Sunlight on Your Skin'" and "I've Been Waiting'" were amazing.. Makonnen had all time in the world to polish his parts and make a decent listen, but instead Lil Peep, who has not been with us for a long time, outshone him on every track!
3.5 for a wasted potential and good laugh
