One of several LPs that the now-obsolete Chaz Jazz label recorded at Hanratty's in New York is an explosive duo outing by the great stride pianist Ralph Sutton and tenor saxophonist Eddie Miller. The usually mellow Miller is really pushed by Sutton into playing some of his most fiery solos so as not to be completely buried. The combination works quite well, particularly on passionate versions of "I Got Rhythm," "Three Little Words," "Lady Be Good," and an especially memorable "Everybody Loves My Baby." Miller gets to show off his luscious tone on the slower pieces (such as "I've Got a Crush On You" and his "Lazy Mood"), but it is the hotter numbers that make this a classic collaboration.
