This 40-track compilation album leads off with Percy Faith's biggest hit, "Theme from 'A Summer Place, '" and also contains his two other chart-toppers, "Delicado" and "The Song from Moulin Rouge (Where Is Your Heart)." It bypasses Faith's other chart singles for extensive excerpts from some of his best-selling albums of the early '60s, notably nine tracks drawn from the gold-selling 1959 album, Bouquet, and three each from its Top Ten follow-ups, Jealousy (1960), Bouquet Of Love (1962), and Shangri-La! (1963). There are standards by the likes of Jerome Kern, Frederick Loewe, Henry Mancini, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Arthur Schwartz, Harry Warren, Kurt Weill and Vincent Youmans, as well as such odd choices as the Weavers' "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine," and even Simon & Garfunkel's "Scarborough Fair/Canticle." Whatever the tune, of course, the approach is the same: endless waves of melodic strings conveying a surprisingly light feel. A mail-order disc licensed from the original Columbia Records recordings, this album makes an excellent sampler of Faith's work.
