Best of Disco may indeed feature some of the best songs from the disco era such as "Le Freak" and "I Love the Nightlife" -- no one will argue with that. But similarly, no one will argue with the fact that these are quite frankly horrendous cover versions of those classics. As you may have guessed, yes, the Countdown Singers have again taken a stab at recreating classic late 20th century pop music, and, yes, they aren't quite up to par when it comes to quality. As always, you can give them kudos if you so please for even attempting to mimic Donna Summer's orgasmic convulsions in "Love to Love You Baby"; it's a daunting task for sure. Unfortunately, you certainly can't give them much credit for the outcome. Even the most casual disco fans won't be able to prevent themselves from cringing at each passing song. Not everyone can sing "Stayin' Alive" like the Bee Gees, and the Countdown Singers prove this all too well here. No matter how alluring the track listing, don't even bother with this album unless you're looking for a good laugh -- that's about the only thing of worth you'll get from this album.
