It would be premature to say that 10cc were already finished by the time this collection was released. In fact, they would not call it quits for another couple of years. But the magic had certainly dispelled by 1980 with their last hit, "Dreadlock Holiday," already receding into ancient history, and the surviving duo of Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman clearly losing interest in searching for a follow-up. This collection concentrates solely on the band's most successful years with the Mercury label -- that is, the albums Original Soundtrack, How Dare You!, and Deceptive Bends (plus "Dreadlock Holiday" from Bloody Tourists) and, in so doing, it at least rounds up the bulk of their most memorable hits: "I'm Not in Love," "Good Morning Judge," "I'm Mandy Fly Me," "The Things We Do for Love." As such, it utterly misrepresents the sheer magic of the original 10cc, in favor of a portrait of somewhat sallow hit-making machine, but hey, if you really cared about the band that much, you'd own the original LPs already. This one's just for the window shoppers.
