Only the Moxham brothers appear on the all-instrumental Testcard EP, a batch of six songs supposedly inspired by the early-morning music played on British television prior to the beginning of its programs. The music would play while a testcard (or color bars) showed on the screen. "Clicktalk" is the closest Young Marble Giants got to electro, thanks to a thumping, propulsive machine beat that makes one think of a hybrid comprised of ESG and a speed-fueled Television; "This Way"'s skipping, loungey feel with predominant organ sounds like the interlude to a puck dropping on Hockey Night in Canada. Most of the others follow in line with the YMG blueprint of spindly guitars and tapping rhythms, save for "The Clock"'s folky acoustics. The EP was eventually appended to the end of the CD version of Colossal Youth issued in 1994 by Crepuscule.
