AllMusic Review by

Volume two of this excellent five-disc series doesn't contain as many national chart-toppers as its predecessor, but the quality level is just about as high. Johnny Adams' big-voiced "Release Me," awhich completely eclipses the better-known Esther Phillips reading, is alone worth the price of admission. Then there's "Doggin' Around," which topped the R&B charts on the strength of a sensual vocal by the great Jackie Wilson and a fine honky-tonk piano; the classic "For Your Precious Love," by Jerry Butler and the Impressions; "Nine Pound Steel," a life-in-prison tale that ranks with Joe Simon's best work; and 14 more tracks.
