This live studio set from California country rock icons the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was recorded in 1974 at Nashville's Woodland Studios and broadcast live on WKDA-FM. At the time of this recording, the band was already well-seasoned and nearly a decade into their career. Their best-known earlier hits like "Mr. Bojangles" and "Some of Shelley's Blues" are featured here alongside renditions of "Battle of New Orleans," "Cosmic Cowboy," and more. The session features their core mid-'70s lineup of Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Faddon, John McEuen, and Jimmy Ibbotson, and while the fidelity of the original tapes is somewhat lacking, the band's performances here are spirited and loose. Live studio broadcasts have a tendency to feel a little awkward as the group banter among themselves without the benefit of an audience, but this recording certainly provides a fascinating snapshot of NGDB in their heyday.
