Bobby Gordon, whose clarinet playing is similar in tone to Pee Wee Russell (although his solos take less chances and are more consistent), is in top form on this fun set. He performs a variety of classic jazz and swing standards, being backed by a fine five-piece rhythm section. While vibraphonist Ken Ebert's solos are relaxing, pianist Vinnie Armstrong adds some heat and rhythm guitarist Katie Cavera keeps the proceedings swinging. Gordon's solos are full of inner fire, and the highlights include "June Night," "I Cried for You" (which has one of his three vocals), "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea," and "I Found a New Baby."
