AllMusic Review by

A poorly titled compilation, Platinum Collection, released in the U.K. by Warner Platinum in 2006, focuses on Hall & Oates in the early '70s, with their first three albums -- 1972's Whole Oats, 1973's Abandoned Luncheonette, and 1974's War Babies -- spotlighted. The set is somewhat useful for those who fell in love with the group through "She's Gone" and want to dig a little deeper into their earliest years, but those albums (especially Abandoned Luncheonette) are strong enough to be heard in whole. Those who only know the '80s hits should be pleasantly surprised to discover a wealth of great songs that pre-dated the likes of "Private Eyes," including "Fall in Philadelphia," "Lilly (Are You Happy)," "Las Vegas Turnaround," and "You're Much Too Soon."
