AllMusic Review by

If you're one of the many who have never been completely clear on what separates "deep house" from just plain house, this DJ mix from Bay Area club darling Julius Papp may not do an awful lot to clarify matters. But if you're also one of those who thinks of house music as something not worth listening to off the dancefloor, this album might change your mind. It's the debut effort from Papp's new NeoDisco label, and while the beats generally stay quite close to the thudding house standard, the other elements of the music shift constantly enough to keep things interesting, and there are even some worthwhile songs in amongst the long instrumental sections and lame "feel the rhythm, feel the groove" cliches. Papp's own productions, notably the very fine title track, are among the album's highlights, but he also brings in some very good material from others' labels, and not all of it has been released elsewhere: there's a nice new Lisa Shaw number called "Do It for You" (courtesy of fellow West Coast scenester Miguel Migs), a soulful turn from Hardsoul (with vocalist Ron Carroll) called "Back Together," and a Loveslapped remix of Goapele's "Closer." Papp's DJ skills lapse only once, when he indulges in some unnecessary and really annoying stereo panning on Galaxy People's "Mystical Journey." Solidly recommended overall.
