Bellevue's Love Songs series, like other releases from the label, features only a handful of original recordings per volume. Poorly recorded live versions and studio re-recordings are far more common. The label specifies which selections are live, but it does not bother to note which ones are inferior studio remakes. That alone is a case for ignoring the whole series. Among the many reasons to avoid this volume: substandard versions of Brook Benton's "A Rockin' Good Way (To Mess Around and Fall in Love)," Peggy Lee's "Fever," the Shirelles' "Dedicated to the One I Love," and Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."
