This LP contains a particularly exciting recording. The great stride pianist Ralph Sutton is teamed with the underrated but talented Dixieland trumpeter Clyde Hurley (a former soloist in Glenn Miller's Orchestra), bassist Walter Page and drummer Charlie Lodice on two radio broadcasts from the Club Hangover in San Francisco. The great majority of the nine standards are uptempo, and the ensemble work and interplay between Hurley and Sutton is quite passionate and explosive. These versions of "I Found a New Baby," "Honeysuckle Rose," "St. Louis Blues" and "Love Is Just Around the Corner" should excite all trad jazz fans.
