AllMusic Review by

One of the most respected performers of English folk music, the singer Maddy Prior has constantly sought new ways to interpret the genre. Building on the success of 2000’s ARTHUR THE KING, her song cycle on the legendary King Arthur, 2003’s LIONHEARTS then delved into the life of Eleanor of Aquitaine, the mother of the storied Richard the Lionheart. With a lifetime of folk music experience to draw upon, Prior deftly separates the warp and weft of fact and legend in this well-constructed musical narrative, throwing in a stirring version of the classic folk song “John Barleycorn” for good measure.
