In the 1980s and '90s, Stomp Off has been the top label in documenting new recordings of classic jazz. This set of mostly obscure tunes from the 1920s is a good example of the kind of music that Stomp Off specializes in. The Back Bay Ramblers is a talented octet featuring the great cornetist Peter Ecklund, Billy Novick and Steve Wright on reeds, trombonist Bob Connors and the versatile pianist Butch Thompson; Karen Cameron's occasional vocals are a bonus. Trad fans will enjoy hearing hot versions of such forgotten songs as "Without You Sweetheart," "Mess-A-Stomp," "You Can't Cheat a Cheater," "You're in Kentucky Sure as You're Born" and the remarkably titled "I Love You Because I Love You."
