La Onda Vampi, the latest sampler for the Madrid-based retro-chic Vampisoul label, collects the best tracks from the label's 2000s releases. The party-ready compilation features boogaloo (Amos Milburn's "Whiz-A-Shoo-Pepi-Dada") and '60s R&B (Melvin Davis' take on Jimmy Hughes' "Chains of Love"), Iranian nuggets (Mehrpouya's "Dokhtare Shab") and Afro-beat jams (Bola Johnson's "Lagos Sisi"), Latin grooves (Joe Bataan's "Latin Soul Square Dance"), and psychedelic instrumentals (Los Siderals' "Dongoh") among other hip vintage sounds. In addition to these dusty gems, La Onda Vampi features a previously unreleased track from soulful Brazilian garage/Tropicalia revivalists Garotas Suecas, their take on the iconic Gilberto Gil/Caetano Veloso composition "Bat Macumba."
