Guitarist Cal Collins made such a strong impression with his Concord recordings that it is surprising to realize he was only with the label from 1978-81; during that era he seemed to be everywhere. This trio set with bassist Monty Budwig and drummer Jeff Hamilton is a strong example of his talents. A talented straight-ahead bop player with roots in the swing era, Collins is heard in top form throughout the excellent program. Highlights include Miles Davis' "Blue Haze," "Sometimes I'm Happy," "Miles' Theme" and "So What."
