Wow! -- that will be viewers' first reaction to this superb bootleg DVD that, despite the presence of a visible time-code counter at the top of the screen, is about the best Kinks concert video that he has ever seen. Filmed at the Rainbow Theatre in London on January 21, 1972, it's crisply photographed and extremely well recorded, and it presents the group working -- astonishingly, for a mere 30 minutes -- from across their entire repertoire, from a briskly paced "Victoria" as an opening to the brass-laden "Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues," reaching back to "You Really Got Me" (and even further, to "Good Golly Miss Molly") and stopping long enough to do "Lola," "Dedicated Follower of Fashion," "Waterloo Sunset," and "Village Green." The running time may be brief, but the content is impeccable and this is an essential acquisition for any serious Kinks fan. As with most bootlegs, it's necessary to keep one's ear to the ground to detect its presence or availability at any given moment.
