Released in 1981, this LP isn't a reissue of Gladys Knight & the Pips' I Feel a Song album of 1974 (which The Right Stuff reissued on CD in 1997). Instead, it offers a sample of material that they recorded for Buddah from 1973-1975. A few of the tracks originally appeared on 1974's I Feel a Song, including the title track, "Love Finds Its Own Way," and "Don't Burn Down the Bridge." But most of the songs are from other albums, which include 1973's Imagination ("The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me," "Perfect Love"), 1974's Claudine ("On and On," "Make Yours a Happy Home," "The Makings of You"), and 1975's 2nd Anniversary ("Part Time Love," "At Every End There's a Beginning"). Although most of the songs are excellent, not all of them are essential. This LP isn't really a greatest hits collection; "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me," "On and On," and "I Feel a Song (In My Heart)" are essential hits, but if this were really a greatest hits album, you would have heard "Midnight Train to Georgia" instead of "Perfect Love" or "Where Peaceful Waters Flow" instead of "At Every End There's a Beginning." So if, in 1981, you were a novice and wanted a collection that stuck to Knight's most essential Buddah hits, this wasn't the LP for you. But for seasoned Knight devotees who want to hear more than just the essential stuff, this album is quite rewarding.
