AllMusic Review by

Moving further away from the banging percussive techno mayhem of his Waveform Transmission albums on Tresor, Growth finds Jeff Mills producing a less dance-friendly style of techno that's more focused on exploring surreal melodies than laying down the usual dose of syncopated rhythms. These untitled compositions fluctuate between moments of collective serenity characterized by soft synth tones before often getting interrupted by alien melodies and the occasional series of percussive beats -- a near perfect balance between the many oft-polarized aspects of techno. Furthermore, Mills accentuates this difficult brand of techno with the underlying ideology of "growth" and a well-constructed locked groove in the middle of side B that creates it's own endless track, characterized by a laser sound firing once every rotation.
