This Willie González retrospective focuses on the more swinging, up-tempo numbers that somehow eluded the first volume. Not that all received the publicity they merited in their time, but they certainly warrant a second consideration. "Amor Pirata," "Hazme Olvidarla," and "He Vuelto" were antidotes that counteracted with the somewhat insipid romantic salsa that was so commercially successful in the late '80s and early '90s. Musical Productions was an up-and-coming label that was hugely effective in establishing themselves as strong-willed competitors. Willie González was one of their top acts and their MP label recording machine was on the rise. As far as this compilation, this is an era where salsa was acquiring newer audiences and moving to higher mainstream territory.
