As much hardstep as a push towards freshly irritated jump-up, DJ Dara's Future Perfect was an entertaining blowback against the inflexible critics of drum'n'bass. Stakka, Skynet & Friction's excellent "Altitude" was a clear standout, a real bipolar drum'n'bass granite-cruncher, but like much of the material here never arrogant enough to reduce things to the impenetrable evil vibes of frustratingly male tech-step. Big and infectious and danceable, and maybe his clumsiest mix to date, Future Perfect somehow went back to the basics without sounding basic, reason enough for its importance in the middle of 2001's dreadful jungle climate.
