Joe Tex's Classic Masters is an 11-track collection of some of Tex's biggest hits and best songs. It includes Tex's biggest hits, 1965's "Hold What You Got" and 1972's "I Gotcha," and some great songs like "Buying a Book" and the hilarious "Skinny Legs and All." The only problem is the sheer amount of great material Tex recorded that is nowhere to be found. A short list would include "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show" and the timeless disco classic "Ain't Gonna Bump No More With No Big Fat Woman." Any compilation that purports to be "classic" should make sure to include the artist's classic songs. For an introduction to the hilarious and unfailingly funky work of Joe Tex, one should turn to Rhino's The Very Best of Joe Tex, which has 16 songs and sells for the same as Classic Masters; if you want to shell out a bit more, Varese has a fine collection, 25 All Time Greatest Hits, that is the best collection on the market.
