The swirling, perfumed echoes of the autoharp were made in heaven. Calling the Angels offers peaceful clouds of these harmonic tones played by Schawkie Roth. "Part I" (of eight parts) also features additional harp strumming (and depth of tone) by Deborah Henson-Conant. Roth has a meditative feel for this instrument. His swirls and glissandi flow in a breathing rhythm, and he carefully picks out melodies (either single notes or intriguing chords) that seem like starlight reflecting on a garden pool or water trickling over rocks. Whether you see clouds, pools, starlight, waterfalls, or angels, you would be hard-pressed to stay uptight listening to this album. Totally radiant.
