With You Are the Ocean, Schawkie Roth has achieved his signature sound of flutes and resonating zither strings. Deborah Henson-Conant's harp improvisations are perfectly matched to the tonal style and color of Roth's flutes, and easily add depth and jewel-like accents to the heavenly glissando of the zither. The pieces are split between swirling clouds of sound defined by the zither and more classically structured pieces. "Ocean Sunrise in the Far East" is an oriental charmer, with the zither simulating a Japanese koto. The entire album easily flows from one piece to the other, and nature sounds of the sea and streams add to the relaxed atmosphere. This one's a classic.
