The best and widest-ranging jungle collection on the market, Breakbeat Science alternates tracks from second-wave jungle pioneers with artists both new and more experimental. Several of the best-known names associated with the style -- Goldie, LTJ Bukem, Alex Reece -- are sadly absent (Goldie does remix one track), but the all-unreleased tracks are very strong nevertheless. Innovators such as 4 Hero, A Guy Called Gerald, Roni Size, Ed Rush, and DJ Trace & Nico make appearances, sharing the stage with newer names such as Plug, Boymerang, and Spring Heel Jack; New York's illbient scene is represented by Soul Slinger's "The Singer." Among the best tracks on the double-disc set (which comes with a 100-page book) include DJ Trace & Nico's "Area 51," Boymerang's "Blue Note," and A Guy Called Gerald's tribute record, "Fabio."
