Benny Waters was 74 at the time of this LP, just entering his prime. He is featured on clarinet, soprano, alto, tenor, and occasional vocals, playing Dixieland and swing with an eight-piece group from Czechoslovakia who is led by clarinetist Pavel Smetacek. Waters, who still had 20 good years ahead of him, is in excellent form on three of his compositions ("Blop Blop," "Zigin' & Zagin'," and "Blue Waters"), plus such warhorses as "Lady Be Good," "If I Could Be With You," and "Sweet Georgia Brown." Since Benny Waters' recordings from this era are not exactly numerous and he is in fine form throughout this diverse set, this album (recorded in Prague) from the Czech Supraphon label is worth a search.
