Baby Mozart, Vol. 1, by the conveniently named Baby Mozart Orchestra, is an introduction to the Classical composer, drawing on some of his best-known works. Opening with the first movement of the "Jupiter" Symphony (mislabeled as the Allegro from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik) and continuing through movements from five symphonies, the overtures to Così fan tutte, The Impresario, and The Magic Flute, and the Andante from the Piano Concerto No. 22, this album is a collection of music that small children may like. One selection, however, is an exception in this regard, for the "Confutatis" from Mozart's Requiem might be too severe and gloomy for children to appreciate, to say nothing of breaking the program of orchestral music with a single choral excerpt. The sound quality is variable and set at a fairly low volume level, so some adjusting is necessary.
