In the music of southern Albania, heroic songs and epics are accompanied by a variety of instruments -- predominantly a one-string fiddle, the lahute, and a two-string lute, the sharki (also known as the cifteli). Love songs are usually sung by a performer without accompaniment but when singers do accompany themselves the instrument used is the sharki.
